The official state flag of Kansas was adopted in 1927. It has a blue field, With a sunflower which is the state flower, the state seal of Kansas beneath it and the word "KANSAS" along the bottom in large golden letters.

The seal itself which is centered to the flag has 34 stars across the top which represents the order of statehood in which Kansas was admitted to the union. Beneath the stars are pictures of rich Kansas farmland, a farmer plowing, covered wagons, Native Americans hunting bison, a rising sun, and a steamboat on a river which represents commerce. The state motto is found on a banner bordering the top of the seal, "AD ASTRA PER ASPERA," which is in latin, translatted it means... "To the stars through difficulty," in Latin.
