Florida's official flag was adopted in 1899.

Florida's flag consists of a white field emblazoned with a red "X" which represents the red cross of St. Andrew . In the center of the cross is the state seal, which depicts a Native American (Seminole) woman scattering flowers, the sun with many rays, a cabbage palmetto tree and a steamboat sailing on open water. The Florida seal itself represents the land of sunshine, flowers, palm trees, rivers and lakes.

Bordering the circular seal is a gold band with the words "Great Seal of the State of Florida" across the top and a star on either side of the words "In God We Trust".
